The Friends of Cathedral Music (FCM), thanks to many supporters of the music at St Barnabas Cathedral, have announced that they will be giving the cathedral a cheque for £25,000 to go towards the Cathedral Choral Scholarship Endowment Fund. This is terrific news and timely with 2012/3 being the 10th Anniversary of Choral Scholarships at the cathedral so this is an extra excuse for us to celebrate.

FCM will present a cheque to the Cathedral Dean on Sunday 23 September during 11.15am Mass during which the choir will sing the Rheinberger Double Choir Mass and also my Lead, kindly Light setting.

I'm also thrilled to announce that from the end of June I shall be taking up the post of Assistant Director of Music and Joint Conductor of the Youth Choir at the Cathedral following the departure of Paul Hayward. We've already got stuck in to planning for the next year at the cathedral and there are some terrific things coming up (see Concerts for more info). Watch this space!

Tomorrow, OpSoc, the University of Nottingham's Opera Society will give the first performance of my first opera, Entr'acte which I completed earlier this month. I have been heavily involved in the rehearsals and am thrilled with the performances coming from the cast members - Nottingham is lucky to have such a talented bunch of people and I feel priviledged to be able to work with them. Not to mention those who do all the hard work behind the scenes. Jade Whymark, OpSoc President and Director of the opera has done a sterling job and it's hard to imagine that we've only been working on the production for 6 weeks. Time travels fast.
If you haven't already checked out the PREQUEL, please do and also look out for the official event on Facebook.

That's not all that's been going on. I'm just putting the finishing touches to my setting of John Henry Newman's Lead, kindly Light which will be performed by the St Barnabas Cathedral Schola Cantorum on Sunday 11 December. I'm also looking forward to a workshop with other collegues from Birmingham Conservatoire at a workshop with Rolf Hind next week. Rolf will be having a look at my piece, Photocopying for solo piano.
